PINAVIJA (2011)

performed by: Arturas Bumšteinas - violin, synthesizer, voice, clapping, flute, koto, dulcimer.

Source material for this composition was borrowed from an archival 78 rpm record of the Hebrew sabbath prayer “Jehi Rozon” recorded by Kantor Israel Bakon in Berlin in the year 1936. Only the sounds of harmonium were sampled, leaving out the cantor's voice. Pinavija is Lithuanian name for a peony flower (Paeonia officinalis). The name of a flower was chosen for the title of this piece because it was composed as a present.
