Arturas Bumsteinas - Gamelan Descending the Staircase (tape part FRAGMENT)

from UN/RELEASED VARIA by Arturas Bumšteinas

/

about

for sounds of gamelan instruments, improvising trumpets and electronics 53 minutes.

The sound source material for this composition was recorded in Ethnologisches Museum Dahlem in the summer of 2013, during a short research visit there. A collection of Indonesian Gamelan orchestra instruments was recorded and later collaged-composed in the surround sound work. The pre-recorded Gamelan part is augmented by the improvisation of three trumpetists. The video projection is something of a clock, a count-down from 10 to 0. The numbers are cut-outs from Marcel Duchamp's 1912 painting "Nude Descending the Staircase. No.2" scanned by a cheap HP printer.
