Glockenspiel

from UNIFORMS by Arturas Bumšteinas

/

about

This composition consists of several layers that move in parallels, progress or doesn’t change at all during the whole duration of the composition. One such layer is a part of midi-glockenspiel which timbre qualities are gradually deformed by the digital manipulations done on computer software. The pitch material of the midi-glockenspiel part is sampled from another layer of this piece – the sequence of tiny electronic sounds (this way Glockenspiel employs the method of “auto-sampling”) which is repeated all over the piece without any changes. Next layer is wind instrument’s part consisting of a sequence of chords with gradually shortening silences between them. The last layer to be mentioned is a continuous sinusoid drone (pitched G#) which has a function of its’ own.
